Utsuro's role in *Gintama: The Very Final* is defined by his connection to the Tendoushuu's scheme. The Tendoushuu take over the Terminal and channel massive amounts of Altana into the body of the child Shouyou to resurrect him and achieve true immortality. Hitsugi, however, reveals he had no intention of reviving Shouyou; he only wanted to free Utsuro from the curse of immortality. Hitsugi stabs and destroys Shouyou's heart, meaning Shouyou can only regenerate and maintain his body temporarily. Later, Takasugi reaches the Tendoushuu's ship and finds that Shouyou has been revived and killed off the rest of the Tendoushuu. Shouyou's only wish is to put an end to himself and Utsuro. Takasugi stabs Shouyou, revealing that Utsuro's blood has taken over his body as well, causing a large explosion. Gintoki then faces off against Utsuro, now manifesting in Takasugi's body. Utsuro realizes that Takasugi did not stab him earlier; instead, supported by Oboro, Takasugi stabbed himself. The body Utsuro saw lying on the ground was himself. Gintoki and Utsuro fight, and with a final stab in a human body, Utsuro is no longer immortal and dies.

In Their Own Story

The Terminal's top was a chaos of Altana and shattered metal. Gintoki faced Utsuro, now wearing Takasugi's body. Utsuro had just realized the truth: Takasugi hadn't stabbed him. Supported by Oboro, Takasugi had stabbed himself. The body Utsuro saw on the ground was his own. 'You're in a human body now,' Gintoki said. They fought. With a final stab, Utsuro's immortality ended. He died. Gintoki held a dying Takasugi in his arms, who told him, 'You've won again,' and died.

Reader's Guide

Utsuro is a central antagonist in the climax of *Gintama: The Very Final*. He is defined by his curse of immortality, which the Tendoushuu sought to exploit by resurrecting Shouyou. Hitsugi's destruction of Shouyou's heart was intended to free Utsuro from this curse. Utsuro later manifests in Takasugi's body after Takasugi stabs himself (supported by Oboro).
